This is going to be awfully mundane to the most of you, but managing the domestic portion of life well is challenging and necessary to balancing the other parts of my brain.
Penn has school from 8:15am to 3:15pm. I have to make breakfast and pack a lunch for him every morning. He has soccer practice on Tuesday and Thursday until 7:30pm and on Wednesday until 8pm. He has math, reading and spelling homework to do every day. His bedtime is 9:00pm. He usually has games on the weekends. Throw in the various Cub Scout activity and other friend and social events plus the fact that Daniel and I have jobs and we all require clean dishes and semi-unwrinkled clothes and you are talking about a full week.
Getting a healthy, home cooked meal on the table becomes more challenging every year. I always have some sort of menu and list planned for the week somewhere on something. But lately I'm enjoying the simplicity of the Mac Sticky Notes. I use these often to take notes for phone calls and make reminders, but having an ongoing menu and grocery list also work out really well. Right before I hit the market I print out the list and am generally able to have what I need to complete most of the meals on hand.
I'm also finding more quick recipes. My top two quick favorites are making veggie sliders on King's Hawaiin Rolls and my variation of this Zucchini, Black Bean and Rice dish.
And for ideas I LOVE Pinterest!

I think I might be the only one left who doesn't like Pinterest. ;)
Hmm, mac stickies, huh? I might look into that. I am eagerly awaiting the October issue of the Clean Eating magazine for more recipe ideas. I am in way too much pain right now to do anything complex (can't stand for long, or hold anything in my hands), but I was enjoying making new and healthy meals earlier this month. Now that I am on sick leave, if I can deal with the pain long enough to make something decent for dinner & have it ready when Shawn finally gets home, I'll be happy.
Plus I stalk your food posts on here. Yum.
I'm so sorry you don't feel well. :(
I couldn't imagine what I would use Pinterest for when I signed up. But, when planning a nursery, re-modeling a bedroom, brainstorming ideas to turn the extra room into a bike room and make the back yard more entertaining friendly, etc., I've found it really useful!
Like, I actually cook the things I bookmark and buy the fabric I've searched for!
Get better soon. Your hair is awesome.
Also, if you have a mac it comes with the stickies.

In place of Penn's school and homework, put my school time and homework; in place of Penn's soccer and cub scouts, put Josh's drum lessons/rehearsals/shows, and now our schedule looks identical. :) In other words, I feel your scheduling/time management pain. I use Evernote for a lot of the same things since I can access it on my phone or any computer.
And you are well aware of my love for Pinterest, ha.
