Obama: It's Not Funny Anymore, originally uploaded by The Searcher.
What -- what is that American promise? It's a promise that says each of us has the freedom to make of our own lives what we will, but that we also have obligations to treat each other with dignity and respect.
My dad, Daniel and I gathered around our tiny tv last night and watched Obama's acceptance speech. We were not disapointed. Not the tiniest bit. The twitterverse was filled with responses, including mine. Turns out Obama is the most followed on Twitter.
I think it's important that we elect Obama. And I'm hoping like hell you do too.

He might be most followed on Twitter, but he's also Most Boring. If you're going to sign up on Twitter, at least tweet something other than "I'm in a state, giving a speech." Really? Wow! How scintillating. [groan] And even those tweets are infrequent.
I think it's brilliant! He tells me just what I need to know. Doesn't waste my time with anything else.
He doesn't bombard me with where he's eating lunch. Doesn't tell me that he's tired or sick or lacking motivation. Doesn't tell me he's decided to go shopping today for a new suit. Doesn't complain about his kid's attitude or whisper tweet that the senator next to him totally has spinach in his teeth.
THOSE things are boring.
Seriously, how many times a day can someone tell me that they're tired or that they need caffeine? (Also: I'm totally guilty!)
I appreciate his infrequent but informative and focused tweets. And I'm on the verge of telling some people to go to the doctor already and unfollowing them.
Informative?
"In Kansas City, MO. Holding a discussion on "Renewing America's Promise."
then
"In Davenport, IA. Holding a "One Nation" town hall."
then
"In Springfield, IL. Holding first campaign event with Senator Joe Biden."
etc.
It's his calendar, which I can get from the news. or his website. or anywhere. Though he does get props on announcing his VP via Twitter.
And, no, I don't want to know about his bowel movements (*snickersnicker* at someone we know), but I don't consider these tweets all that "informative." They tell me little about Barack Obama as a candidate, other than his schedule.
He - ie. his staff, because I don't believe for one minute that Barack himself is texting - has immediate, intimate contact with his voters through Twitter. It's under-utilized. And that's a shame. Because I can't think of a more direct way to convey his message than to text my cell phone.
I think his location is informative.
And how is he supposed to tell me "who he is as a candidate" in 140 characters or less?
So he links to places where he can be more informative.
And I don't have them come to my phone. That probably would feel boring.
I'm saying!
He and his staff are savvy enough to work with the 140 character limit. Right?
I feel more comfortable voting for him now. Still not 100 percent excited, but I'm getting there I suppose.
