My website has a new look. There's some tightening up to do folio-wise and loose strings to tie on things you probably won't notice...but other than that I'm liking it so far.

Engagement Portrait

This engagement portrait was so much fun to shoot! I've been wanting to "trash the dress" for a while now. I wasn't prepared to do it on this day, but quick thinking/driving found us a fountain at the Dallas Museum of Art where they got married.

It was so much fun that if you are interested in trashing your dress, I think I'll even throw in a discount!

Man, I wish I lived near a beach...

This weekend I had the pleasure of shooting some very talented kids painting at FaireART, an art studio/school next to the Casa Linda Theatre. Look for the full story in the Advocate.


Penn has been attending quite a few fun shoots with me like this. He seems to jump into his own "work mode" when mommy has to jump into hers. He either carries the notebook for me to get names as well as other random equipment, or I can trust he'll stick to a specific spot and entertain himself ... or more often, those around him. I notice, he's watching me very carefully the whole time.

I'm very grateful to be able to blur the mom at home and mom at work lines sometimes. There are a lot of different roles we have to play in the different sections of our lives (home/work/life/mom/woman/friend/cleaning lady ...) and it's nice that my son gets a pretty fair opportunity to be part of all of these ideas.

Sometimes I feel like my whole day is spent watching blue loading bars or countdowns, etc. that tell me when things are done processing and crossing my fingers that nothing "times out" or pops up with an error message or a "not responding" message. (metaphorical and literal.)

Fresh

Once I've really reeallly made up my head about something, it's difficult for me to not do it immediately.

It occurred to me that I hated the color of the bedroom. It had to be painted. Right then. And I'm pretty pleased with the results, discounting the touch-ups and trim painting that still needs to be done.

See the color behind Penn's boot clad feet in this photo? That's what I painted over. Eughh.

It all feels very fresh now. Some simple curtains to go over the new white roll-up blinds are next.

Mr. Smith Comes to Town

We originally planned a road trip to Galveston. A mini vacation away from obligations and deadlines and the things that make our heads explode. But various variables made that difficult to do rightthissecond, so I said, "just come up for the weekend."

Meet my old friend, the Stupendous Zach!, who I haven't seen in four years.

Penn fell in love with him immediately. Zach walked in the door, they shook hands, Penn brought out his baby Mensa cards, they erupted in a good game of "monster" (the part where the kid gets chased/tickled silly), Penn borrowed his boots and a friendship was born.


I'm so lucky to have such good amazing people in my life that inspire and motivate me and make me very proud of who they are. It was a fabulous weekend! Thanks for coming, Z. Do it again soon 'cause we already miss you!
