Sold Out

First, Sean Lennon, then Polyphonic .... This "sold out" business is already tired. Buying tickets in advance from here on out.

But .... the evening was still very fun. I shot a fun show at Mutt Gallery.

And I enjoyed yummy veggie food and chatter with friends. 'Tis the season for getting together and scratching mosquito bites. Methinks we'll have to do a little grilling with folks here soon too.

Noting the tags on this post, I'd just like to say, these are the luxuries of a happy life.

Amazing Fred

Here's what you look like when you're not afraid of the camera.

Fred is one of the most amazing and unique fellows in Dallas. He just may be my favorite person to shoot, too. Inspiring.

I see people on stage

Have managed to see some shows here and there.

The Amazing Fred had a birthday bash at Club Dada where FIVE bands played in his newly 16 year old honor. His band, The Felons, were the biggest treat to hear. Definitely a band I want to hear more of.

I waited months for my poetic hero Buddy Wakefield (mentioned before) to make his way to Dallas. And for $17 I got to hear three poems I've heard before and have on disc and seen on youtube, because, I am slightly obsessed. AND IT WAS STILL WORTH IT. [insert deep girly sigh here.]

(*note: Granada is now like a big ole hospitality contest disguised in punkwear and if you hand over your email at the door to the nice man who has time to ask every. single. person. if they've been to the Granada before, they'll send you free photos from the show covered in tacky text and copyright notes like the one below. Just in case you forgot who you bought tickets to?)

As for the following acts from that night, well, it's hard to say. Was too busy with the quesadilla's at Snuffy's next door. Which, incidentally, sounded way better than that one song I heard half of.

Click here to watch the Sage Francis song I really do like. (I did watch a bit of him. I mean, it was 17 dollars.)

A quick tangent about text on photos: Don't do it. If it's really about the photo and it's really not about how proud you are that you took the photo, then stop distracting me from the image with your name (and/or "buddy wakefield 6-8-07") in a font that's probably too big.

Saw Salim at All Good for the first time acoustically. Wows. Seriously, all that time listening to the full band I was obviously missing some things. A man and his guitar and a message are simply beautiful.

And tomorrow .... POLYPHONIC SPREE.

super gruver

All of my work is based on word of mouth. I am so grateful for all of the glowing recommendations! Because, at the end of the shoot, you're trapped in my hard drive forever and I and my hard drive are pretty tight.

Unfortunately I don't get everything I shoot onto this blog. Even more unfortunate, I don't get it into my portfolio.

Almost all my calls this week were referrals from The Knot. A search to see what people were saying these days brought up a fabulous wedding I forgot to tell you about.

The Super Gruver's! And you can conveniently see most everything if you click here.

I love you guys!

Space Studio is getting a new web look. I think it's fabulous! Amazing job. If they haven't already, Hal and the team are going to blow you away really soon. I am still completely humbled and honored to be part of that team. (really, omg!) Hal has magical motivating energy that makes you want everything good for everyone you know and then throws out faith and opportunity to combine your artistic tools with others and the universe to actually make it happen.

'Tis a gift.

At Lavendou's

This old mirror gave a nice reflection of my set up in Lavendou's this weekend.

Then this this guy came out of nowhere! Kidding. Big thanks to Alex for making the long and special trip to bring me my forgotten light stand. I owe you dinner.

Highlight

Tomorrow I'll be shooting stills on the set of "High School Musical" for Disney Channel. I'll be following around two-time Academy Award Winner Barbara Kopple while she makes a documentary.

I am thrilled!

Sexy Sady is her real name

My decade old purry furball named after the song that was playing when her moms gave her to me.

They smell good, too.

I'm used to being handed cake and champagne, but at the last wedding I came home with beautiful flowers. (Then I spilled them in the floorboard of my new car.) But, thanks Nikki! Photos from the spectacular wedding soon.

Best thing I've said all day

Our children are not something we should make excuses to or take chances with for the sake of an inadequate teachers occupation.

When 3 yr olds talk

1. On the way to the grocery I was playing "When your heart breaks (into many little pieces), by Ant.

From the back seat Penn says, "That's not good that his heart is in pieces. I don't think we should play that song anymore."

I think his ability to understand the stories and meaning in songs is really amazing.

2. In the grocery Penn fell asleep in the cart, my bag as his pillow. When I picked him up to put him in the car he said, with the oldest little voice I've ever heard, "I'm alive."

Which made me laugh, then I asked him what he meant by "he's alive."

"I fell asleep. I couldn't hold my eyes open. Then I woke up with you and I'm alive."

3. When we got home he had an "accident." After cleaning up the pee he crawled onto the couch and I told him he was really cute. He shook his head. "I'm not cute, momma, from I peed on myself." Then I explained he could pee on everything in site and he would still be the cutest thing ever and I would still love him more than anything.

I really love these two pieces so if any of you come across a pile of cash and need something to do with it ...

Sally is a collector with exquisite taste. I greatly enjoyed shooting this collection. See more here and here.

Norbuck

The best part of our neighborhood is being two blocks from Norbuck Park. There's one really long hilly open trail that runs from Van Dyke Street to Northwest Hwy and at the right time I make a lot of new friends and walk my dog with fellow neighbors. And at the other right time Ringo and I are the only ones out there and I can let him run, because the dog, he likes. to. run. fast.
And then he likes to roll. And then he erupts into a series of sneezes because he's allergic to the world and the tiny seeds that he forces up his nose during his full speed sprints to nowhere.

Around 5ish everything drowns in the soft sunlight and I keep meaning to take my camera. The 11 o'clock sun just doesn't do it justice. Having a place to go like this daily and hang with my pup and leave my phone at home really makes my whole day.

Cash in Space

Cash is bringing sexy back.

There's really nothing I can say about a picture of a dog named Cash with her head between my legs that doesn't sound dirty, so I won't say anything about how my first thought for a caption was, "I was out in Space with Cash in my crotch" or how maybe that would make a great line for a rap song.

Text "Pixel" to 41411

The novelty of the idea makes me want to purchase this ... ha!

It's like twitter on a t-shirt.

I have the best job Ev-ar

Sure, photography is both my passion and my occupation, but it comes with even more perks. Like spending my weekends with amazing families and being part of their memories.

Sometimes it also comes with a little party. Standing alongside the rim of so much dancing and happy is enormously entertaining.

About ten minutes after jokingly warning my assistant, Benito, that occasionally we're forced to dance, the pretty ladies pulled him onto the floor.

Let me introduce to you my 2nd shooter, Benito. He's fabulous and he can take pictures while he dances. I am very excited and fortunate to be working with him.

Congrats to super-couple Jackson and Cassidy. I'll share more of their actual wedding when I finish processing them.

Connect

So happy right now I'd call one of you and invite you to a celebratory happy drink somewhere ... if I hadn't gotten a new phone this a.m. and lost all your numbers.

So, call/email/txt me soon!
