DIFFA

the wind gave us an orange-tinted sky and tossled hair, but even so, the DIFFA event and fashion show was a blast. (no pun intended.) lots of fun bands.

and special clearence into sections of west village i've never been into that magically transformed into fashion meccas.

all for the big finale. thanks to DIFFA and look out for their really big event on march 31st.

double-ugh

penn and i got home from a shoot at 4 yesterday. we left the car packed with equipment and headed straight for the bed where we fell asleep instantly. we didn't wake up until 10a.m. today. that's eighteen hours.

too-much-information, but weird side-effect, i've never sweat so much in my life. dripping hair and soaking cargo pants with your own bodily fluids is so not comfortable.

i think the ordeal lost me 3 pounds and i'm a little jealous that the other colds i know of are such calm sniffly things.

the sleeping thing gave me a new wish: for muscle's sake, may i never go into a coma.

ugh

reached a whopping fever of 102.8 today. strangest feeling of being completely incapacitated. ibuprofen has kicked everything back to normal now. hoping food/shower will add some more bonus points to the mix.

this fun-filled weekend of work and play is not the one i want to be sick for.

DIFFA (*updated)

i'll be shooting the DIFFA (The Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids) fashion show this saturday in the west village. the village will be blocked off from 10a.m.-10p.m. with proceeds from an auction of amazing designer jackets as well as a portion of purchases made at the west village shops and pubs going to the foundation.

look for the JUMBOTRON where i'm told my photos will be projected as well as featured in Paper City.

big thanks to janne' harrel for all she does.

she gushes

after failed babysitter search i made a very last minute decision last night to take the kiddo to the playplace, open till 11:30 on weekends, so i could catch the chemset and salim show at sons of herman.

caught tail end of hand claps and harmonies and missed all of salim due to kiddo retrieval, but totally worth it for hearing fave songs live and spontaneity factor.

mommyhood brings to light supernatural joys that just can't exist without children. but it kills spontaneity.

simplicitea.com

i've been doing product shots for simplicitea for a while now. it's a local tea company with fabulous products.

good news: you can buy it at whole foods now!

i recommend the chocolate chai.

music for charity

hal samples brought together a great crowd last night at the granada theatre. the bill: the tah-dahs (no pic due to tardiness),

shanghai 5,
white ghost shivers ,

and the black angels.

i can't possibly say enough good things about white ghost shivers. if you don't feel good listening to them, there's gotta be something wrong with you. their live show was very persuasive.

what's better than a good show? proceeds going to family gateway center. what comes close? nacho's and hot chocolate on a very cold night.

dear email cybergod,

i'd bet good money that there's at least one person out there who asked me to photograph something and i didn't return their email.

here's what i know:
  1. i have to respond to emails as i open them to ensure that i don't forget.

  2. i have to mark "copy to sent files" so that later, i can double-check that i responded and avoid doing it twice.

  3. i can't hire an assistant to answer these kind of emails, really, i don't think. (any of you reliable cheap-labor persons out there are free to prove me wrong here.)

  4. #'s 1 and 2 are often interrupted by the three year old or the phone or some destruction of property via kid/dog/utility company, by dog or cat vomit or general moment of unrulyness, breakfast, lunch, dinner, bathtime, bedtime, grocery shopping, dishes, laundry, fed ex runs, printing errors, internet connection retardation, company and murphy's law.
because email doesn't come to me 5 or 10 a day on average. it's 10 or 30. it's one line reply's or the need to pull out every file in the box. it's nothing or omg. dear email cybergod, i seek balence in email loads.

"feel good"

random string of events caught me up in a funk this week so i slammed together some "feel good" tunage to aid in the reassurance that all is well.

first, i can't believe there are 37 songs in here.

second, i accidently hit shuffle so my actual order is unfortunatley lost.

third, there are several that are in my itunes, but can't be displayed because either they're too indiecool or they're not logged in a way that itunes knows what it is. so, do yerself a favor and add some chemistry set and disregard the "television" track that is supposed to be adam again.

*note: i think there's potential to edit the imix. if this is the case first/second/third may soon be eliminated.

adventures of rex

if you've met my son in person, chances are, you've also met his two hermit crabs. this is rex. on my desk. crawling through some contracts. (geez, look at my desk!)
this is rex taking a ride on the tractor.

i'm totally with you. hermit crabs used to creep me out. but it's really adorable to see how enthused and nurturing penn is with his super-low-maintence pets. they have made it far past the "it's-just-a-phase" test.

and i'll admit. the little dude dragging his shell around my desk while i work is rather endearing.

"Art With a View - La Reunion in the O.C."

while sj was overseas i got to play the shorter, more asian version of her snaphappiness in the Belmont at "Art With A View – La Reunion in the O.C.
A juried show featuring the work of Angela Faz, Anita Horton, Ann Huey, Brad Ford Smith, Catalyna Mendez, Celia Dias, Gregory Bergeron, Kevin Obregon, Kim Alexander, Michael Arreaga, Tara Rochette Valure, Tim Todd, William Groves, and Wim Bens. A portion of the proceeds from art sales benefit La Reunion TX. On view through March 13, 2007.

i was a bit sad that the ice kept me from shooting something for the show since, for once in my life, i knew exactly what i wanted to shoot.

however, the place was so packed there was no room in my head to think about anything except navigating the crowds and admiring the work. congrats to everyone involved on such a successful event.

click here or check my flickr to see more photos. see also: la reunion's flickr for a pool of photos from lots of folks.

dear daycie

i didn't get to meet you in person. but i know your mom pretty well. she was my neighbor in the college dorms of which we quickly escaped to our first apartment. of which we then escaped to our 2nd and 3rd apartments over the course of 4 years. during this time your mom and i fumbled our way through our early 20's. she taught me a lot and helped me figure out who i was. also, your mom, she knew how to throw a good party.

a decade has passed.

she's really really special. so is your dad. even in your short life, i know you already figured that out. i hear you made your mark with your mom's flaming red hair and your tiny little attitude. this doesn't surprise me a bit.

i really wish i could've hugged you. wish i could've seen those big blue eyes. kissed your little face all over and waited on the big toothless smiles to come.

so i didn't get to say hello to you. and i didn't get to say goodbye.

but i sure as hell think about you a lot.

goodbye dear daycie. love you.
